Why product data comes first
OpenAI publishes a product feed specification for ads shown in ChatGPT. A feed is only as good as the catalog behind it: a missing brand, image or valid price in Shopify becomes a problem in every feed you create from it. Checking source data first means you fix each issue once, at the source.
AI Ads Manager checks Shopify product data against the required fields in the OpenAI native product feed specification. The specification can change, so always confirm details in OpenAI's current documentation.
Required product data
The audit checks these required fields for every scanned variant: item ID, title, description, product URL, brand, seller name, image, availability and price.
In Shopify, the variant ID provides the item identity and the product ID groups variants together. The Vendor field supplies the brand, and your store currency accompanies each price. Prices must be positive decimal values.
Variants and options
Each variant's option combination must be unique and consistent across the product. Two variants of the same product with identical options are a common cause of feed problems, and they are often invisible when you look at the product page.
If you supply a barcode, it must be a valid GTIN. Leaving out an optional GTIN is not a failure, though adding one can improve your product data.
Availability
Availability is worked out from Shopify's sale availability, inventory tracking, online quantity and inventory policy. Products with untracked inventory are not assumed to be out of stock. If the evidence is incomplete or contradictory, the audit reports the result as unknown rather than guessing.
How results are classified
Blocked means a required or conditional field failed validation. Warning flags a potential problem you should look at. Opportunity marks an optional improvement, such as a longer title or an added GTIN. Short titles alone never block a product.
The readiness score is the share of required checks that passed in the products scanned. Optional improvements do not affect it.
What an audit cannot tell you
The audit reads your source data. It does not check whether image URLs load publicly, whether descriptions are accurate, regional stock or market pricing, feed registration, or advertiser account approval. A high score therefore does not guarantee that a feed is accepted or that ads will serve.
